Scotland Yard Gospel Choir

Posted by MTP on 15th November 2009 in New AltCountry

Just posted 4 or 5 songs by Scotland Yard Gospel Choir. Not exactly alt-country perhaps, but it so obvious they are having fun – and their lyrics are so funny and down to earth at the same time, I had to pick up a few tunes. Odds are there will be more seeing I did not get the song in the video below and it is pretty obvious I should have. There is something almost ‘twee’ about them for those old enough to remember bands like Tullycraft and Bunnygrunt, but these guys have more going on musically. Should be noted that these guys were in a pretty serious car accident recently. Bloodshot Records has a page with updates on their health and various benefits set up to help them pay the bills. Check it out here.

November Skies (or the internet can be useful sometimes)

Driving home from work last week, I heard a small piece of a song mentioning “November Skies” on WRIU’s Boudin Barndance, the local college radio station’s folk and roots show. Only a piece mind you and no idea who the artist was. Almost forgot about it – but the nice weather this weekend got me thinking about November again and the third link down for a search on Google of “November skies song” got me where I wanted to go. Slaid Cleaves seems to have been around quite a while but he just showed up in my world and I added a few songs by him including “November Skies” to the stream. Or I will tomorrow the way things are going ….

Also dropped some Yesterday’s Ring into the stream from their new album. Yeah more stuff from Suburban Homes. I will branch out to Bloodshot Records some day …

Been away … all the while fetching new music

Okay, maybe not. Real life got in the way of this hobby. Adding Steve Earle “Live at the BBC”, Old 97’s “Too Far To Care” and The Best of Townes Van Zandt to the stream if only so I get a chance to hear them. Not deleting anything right now as I kind of like the way the stream sounds. The last five artists were the Jayhawks, Uncle Tupelo, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, and the Replacements which are all more than fine to me. Objections can be filed below but odds are it will just be more spam ;-)

Some time later this month I need to wade through the Bloodshot Records catalog and order a few cd’s to add. I suppose the problem is every time I check out their player I find something else I want to order. Ah well, what does it take to get to a drink in this place?
